By focusing purely on battles, Pokémon Champions foregoes some familiar franchise elements. There is no need to fill out a Pokédex or stop a team of criminals here. Conversely, some memorable mechanics remain for players to discover, like finding shiny Pokémon or using different types of Poké Balls.
That’s right, your trainer isn’t limited to the traditional red and white ball. The only problem is that it isn’t as easy as buying some at a shop. Here’s what you need to know about how to use different Poké Balls in Pokémon Champions.
How to get Different Poké Balls in Pokémon Champions
There are actually a few ways to acquire other types of Poké Balls. Some require pure luck, while others require you to jump through some hoops first.
The first and simplest way to get different Poké Balls is by recruiting Pokémon. Not only are the ten Pokémon randomized, but there is a chance for them to come with unique Poké Balls. You can see what type of Poké Ball they’re attached to by looking at the small icon to the left of their name.
A far less random way to get unique Poké Balls is to transfer Pokémon you’ve captured in other titles through Pokémon Home. Not only are their size and stats copied over, but so is the type of ball they were captured with. Rest assured, whether you color coordinate or try catching everything in a Premier Ball, they’ll show up correctly in Pokémon Champions.
The third way to get different Poké Balls is by accepting Pokémon through Mystery Gifts. Just like the mainline series, any Pokémon you receive through the Mystery Gift feature comes with the all-red Cherish Ball. Since these are only featured in events/giveaways, they’re one of the rarest Poké Ball types in the series!
That covers how to get different Poké Balls in Pokémon Champions. I also suggest spending some victory points in the shop to get yourself a new Victory Pose. Two of them have your trainer showing off their Poké Ball, which is the perfect cherry on top after winning a match.
Pokémon Champions is available now on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
