Depending on your perspective of time, we are either nearing the end of the PS5 lifecycle or getting closer to the start of the PS6 lifecycle. According to a new report by Tom Henderson, they claim that the PS6 will offer the disc drive as a separate add-on, similar to what the PS5 Pro / PS5 Slim currently offers.
In his report, Tom highlights how the PlayStation 6 will offer the disc drive as an optional asscessory that buyers will have to pay for separately. When I bought my PS5 Pro, getting the disc drive was easy as I used it from my PS5, but even today finding a disc drive in stock is a challenge. I hope that for the PS6 Sony will ramp up production of the drive to meet demand, unlike what it is at currently.
This could be seen as a win if you consider that it can drive down the costs of the consoles on launch, but I personally will still go for the disc drive. Some games are still worth it for me like Silent Hill f steelbook that comes with pre-ordering the physical edition.
