This week, a convincing-looking image was leaked online featuring Nemesis, Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira with the title Biohazard RE:3 and made rounds across all manner of circuitry and Wi-Fi beams. Gamers will no doubt extrapolate from this imagery the suggestion that a remake of Resident Evil 3 is on the horizon.

The recent remake of Resident Evil 2 (fan-titled REmake 2) was one of Capcom’s biggest hits this year. Along with Devil May Cry V, REmake 2 was not only a sales success for the Japanese game designer, but it won fans over and helped restore good faith with fans that had been lost in the 2010s. Critics and gamers agree: this year has been a return to form.

But how legitimate is this image? Even though Resident Evil 3 is one of my favorite games in the series, I remain skeptical. After all, it took Capcom 21 years to work up the nerve to release a remake of Resident Evil 2. Are they in such a rush to release another Resident Evil game?
