It was announced at PlayStation’s State of Play this past Thursday that indie development studio Sloclap had been working on a game called Sifu. This is the company’s follow-up to their multiplayer game, Absolver, and hopes that it too delivers on real greatness. Sifu is a true-to-combat Kung Fu-style game where technique and timing are everything. You’ll play as a young Kung Fu student who spends their life training to right the wrongs of their past and bring revenge upon their enemies. You’ll fight your way through a vast world to hunt down and kill those who had done you wrong.
The gameplay is a combination of games from the beat-em-up genre as well as the roguelike genre. The main catch is that the protagonist uses a magic pendant that revives him upon death, in doing so it will age him significantly upon its use. It’s a really unique take on both genres that it’s encompassing and I really can’t wait for its release day. Sifu echoes the look and feel of old Kung Fu films, which are always an enjoyable experience. Hopefully, we get to see a gameplay trailer in the next few weeks, because the trailer really just teases it. The tight corridors and fighting go hand in hand to create claustrophobic and intense combat situations. I hope it turns out as great as it looks.
Sifu releases this Fall and will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC.
