Solar Ash, the sophomore outing from Hyperlight Drifter developer, Heart Machine, has a new trailer on the eve of its release on December 2nd. The trailer shows off the game’s stunning art direction, environmental design, combat, and the nimble traversal system that has been a centerpiece of the game’s marketing.
The new trailer also includes deeper hints about Solar Ash’s story, and how the main character fits into this decaying, ethereal world. A large, angelic figure speaks to the main character throughout the trailer, almost taunting them with the futility of their mission. This figure doesn’t want the player character meddling with their domain and seems intent on stopping them no matter what.
Solar Ash is the second game from Heart Machine and their first foray into 3D game design. Hyperlight Drifter, their previous title, was a pixelated homage to exploration games of a bygone era like the original Legend of Zelda. It featured an expansive world and a story told entirely without dialogue.
Solar Ash is a first for the studio in many ways and has the potential to be one of 2021’s indie darlings. Solar Ash will release on December 2nd, 2021, for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via the Epic Game Store.
