Something Cool: PERSONA 3 PORTABLE And PERSON 4 GOLDEN Mailer

Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden are two of the most beloved JRPGs out there, and these modern classics have finally made their way to modern platforms. Atlus and Sega have made the launch of these ports a major part of their 2023 marketing. So much so, in fact, that they sent out some pretty nifty care packages stuffed with goodies fans of the series may find familiar.

I was fortunate enough to receive one of these packages, and it did not disappoint. The first thing you’ll notice is the distinct shade of blue of the box, a tone that Persona 3 Portable players should recognize. The logos of both games are emblazoned on the top as well, just in case anyone didn’t know this was a Persona-themed treasure trove.

Upon opening the box I found an assortment of authentically Japanese treats including High-Chew candies in a variety of flavors, Ito En brand Matcha Green Tea packets, and a packet of Sapporo Ichiban noodles and beef soup. I immediately tore into the packet of Hello Panda chocolate wafer candies, a staple component of every 90s kid’s diet.

Nestled between the food and the springy packaging material was a card bearing the key art from both Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden. On the back, the card bore a message from the Persona team that both celebrated the release of the games and also teased the last two pieces of the box: exclusive LED lamps in the shape of two icons from each game.

The P3P lamp is in the shape of the clock that heralds that game’s mysterious Dark Hour, while the P4G lamp is the in the shape of the television sets that allow the main characters to slip into the dangerous world of the Midnight Channel. Both lamps came with USB cords to connect them to a power source, but they only came to life after I inserted AA batteries. I’m not sure if that was user error or a technical hiccup, but it was a minor hurdle to get these beautiful little light sources glowing.

This entire package was a joy to open and sort through, and I’ve already polished off the majority of the snacks they included. And these lamps will be keepsakes I plan to display with pride, especially after playing through both games as part of this grand rerelease. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a midnight appointment to jump into my TV.

Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden are available now for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
