South Park Creators Delay New Episode By a Week Due to Missed Deadline

Those expecting a new episode of South Park to air tonight will have to wait a while longer. South Park co-creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have announced that the fifth episode of Season 27 will not be airing until next week.

The show’s heads shared a joint statement on South Park’s official social media pages on Wednesday admitting that they didn’t get the upcoming episode “done in time” because they tried to produce it at the last minute. They made up for it by releasing a new schedule for future episodes alongside their statement, with the new episode in question airing on September 24.

“Apparently when you do everything at the last minute sometimes you don’t get it done,” Stone and Parker said in the statement. “This one’s on us. We didn’t get it done in time. Thanks to Comedy Central and South Park fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week!”

This is the second time in South Park’s history that an episode got delayed by a week since “Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers” in 2013. At that time, a power outage at the studio didn’t allow them to produce the episode in time.

However, the timing of the delay for the upcoming episode by another week coincides with the assassination of Charlie Kirk, who was shot while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University last week. Cartman spoofed Kirk to get back at Clyde in this season’s second episode “Got a Nut” last month. Comedy Central pulled a rerun of that episode off the air as a result of Kirk’s death, but it’s still streaming on Paramount+.
