Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
It’s been a long time coming, but Metroid Prime 4: Beyond proves that some waits are absolutely worth it. Nintendo didn’t just revive the series—they elevated it. The game looks stunning on Switch 2, with sharp visuals and rock-solid performance even in 4K mode, something that still feels a little unreal on Nintendo hardware. More importantly, it nails the balance between honoring the past and pushing forward, blending classic Metroid exploration and atmosphere with modern design sensibilities. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or a newcomer finally curious about Samus’ legacy, this feels like a defining moment for the franchise.
Not perfect but one of the better Switch 2 titles on the newer side of the house.
OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0
Going backwards in time has never felt so refreshing. OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0 leans hard into its old-school RPG roots while layering in just enough modern flair to keep things feeling polished and relevant. The HD-2D presentation remains gorgeous, but it’s the soundtrack that truly steals the show, one of the best we’ve heard in ages, effortlessly setting the mood for every town, battle, and story beat. This is a love letter to classic JRPGs that understands why those games mattered in the first place, and it feels right at home on the Switch 2.
No really, the soundtrack alone is the worth the price of admission. In an end of a lot of servicable but forgettable gaming soundtracks, this one deserves our highest praise.
Divinity: Original Sin 2
At this point, Larian Studios might as well be considered untouchable. If Baldur’s Gate 3 made you a believer, Divinity: Original Sin 2 on Switch 2 is your chance to see where that magic truly began. This is an absolute masterpiece: Deep, reactive, and endlessly replayable with systems that encourage creativity rather than restrict it. The Switch 2 handles it beautifully, making this massive RPG feel surprisingly natural in handheld form. Older or not, this game stands tall as one of the greatest RPGs ever made, full stop.
BG3 nut? Here's another 100+ hours for you to sink your teeth into and have all those family Christmas parties just melt away :)
Kirby Air Riders
Chaotic, unique, fun, and flashy, in the best possible ways. Kirby Air Riders is pure Nintendo energy distilled into a racing game, and it might just be one of the best Kirby titles to date. The gameplay is easy to pick up but wildly unpredictable, turning every race into a colorful explosion of momentum and mayhem. It’s also a perfect fit for the Switch 2’s power, looking vibrant and running smooth whether docked or handheld. This is the kind of game that reminds you why local multiplayer and couch chaos still matter.
Quirk in some areas? For sure but that makes it even more appealing and charming for Kirby veterans and newcomers alike.
Red Dead Redemption
Yeah, so what? It’s an older game but Red Dead Redemption remains a masterpiece, and its Switch 2 release only reinforces that fact. With thoughtful enhancements, improved performance, and visuals that finally do the original vision justice on a handheld, this version feels like a respectful celebration rather than a lazy port. The world is still hauntingly beautiful, the story still hits hard, and the gameplay holds up far better than many modern releases. On Switch 2, Red Dead Redemption proves that great games don’t age, they mature.
RDR2 may someday come to handheld gaming devices but for now, the original is a pocket gamer dream come true.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
Ok, let’s make that six and definitely not in last place at all, is the absolutely incredible port of The Definitive Edition of the modern Tomb Raider series that started it all. While some ports are slop, some are just fine, this one is one of the best we’ve seen and is a technical marvel for the Switch 2.
The graphics are sharp, animation fluid at 60 FPS and this modern classic gets the fantastic port that it deserves. One of my favorite modern adventures now looks nearly flawless for gaming on the go. An easy choice and pick up for any stocking stuffer!
