Even a Splatoon franchise veteran can jump into Splatoon Raiders for the first time and be overwhelmed by the difficulty and gameplay. Although there are a lot of similarities to the main games, this spin-off is quite different in a lot of aspects. To make sure your adventures go smoothly, here are the best tips for beginners in Splatoon Raiders.
Try out all Tanks
Although you may be inclined to only play with one Tank and focus on upgrading it, there are a few reasons as to why you should try them all out. First off, after upgrading one Tank for the first time, its next upgrade will require you to have another Tank leveled up. So you might as well change up Tanks once in a while.
You also might find that you like one Tank more than you expected even if you initially preferred another. Certain levels grant you different rewards depending on which Tank you’re using, so don’t neglect a Tank type. On top of that, if you play with friends and you need a balanced team, you should be versatile in what Tanks you’re good with.
Use Bot Hop when cornered
It’s easy to forget that you have your Bot friend to help you leap high into the air when in a sticky situation. Call the Bot by hitting X, then jump to use Bot Hop. I always use this when cornered, especially since the Bot deals knockback damage when it lands.
Unfortunately, if an enemy hits the Bot, it’ll fall over and be temporarily unable to let you Bot Hop. Still, you can call it over at any point, giving you air time and a height advantage to avoid damage from Salmonids on the ground.
Replay dungeons to level up
It may sound obvious, but if you’re struggling with the dungeon you’ve just unlocked, don’t try to brute force it. You may need to upgrade your weapons, get better Relics for your Tank, or level up in general. Replaying older levels is an easy way to farm resources and upgrade your kit.
You’ll also eventually unlock Spicy levels, which allow you to replay older dungeons on a higher level. Go back and play the Spicy versions of levels before jumping into a really tough dungeon. You may have to grind a bit to continue the main campaign.
Use build presets
Don’t be like me, who only realized after playing half a dozen hours of Splatoon Raiders that there are preset options. While in the Gear menu, press the “-” button to check out your presets. You can register up to six different presets, so you could have at least two presets for each Tank.
Now you don’t have to worry about changing a build you really like. Assign presets for different playstyles so you can take less time setting your gear before hopping into a dungeon.
Focus on boss Salmonids
When you’re playing a level with dozens of smaller enemies and one or two Boss Salmonids, always try to focus on defeating the bosses. This is because many levels require you to defeat the Boss just to pass, and it doesn’t help that you’re on a time crunch.
Boss Salmonids also give you Mega Power Eggs, which are also required to pass certain levels. If you don’t collect enough Power Eggs within the time frame, you’ll lose, so tackle the big enemies before the smaller ones.
