The world is a broken place in the new trailer for Modern Warfare. The next Call of Duty game will once again test the abilities of the world’s ghost operatives. The best part of the trailer is the introduction of Commander Farah Karim, who allies with Captain John Price and his team. She’s the charismatic leader of the Urzik militia who is trying to quell the violence that has erupted in her corner of the Middle East.
No decision will be easy, however. Taylor Kurosaki, the studio narrative director for Infinity Ward, notes that “these are morally complex stories where there is no black and white, or pure evil or pure good. It’s the gray in the middle of all that, and finding your line is a hard thing to determine.” The story trailer certainly underscores that ambiguity.
Though the Call of Duty series usually emphasizes the multiplayer elements of their games, the Modern Warfare entries have proved that they can create memorable single player experiences. If the newest game is able to replicate the success of its predecessors, then we’ll have a gritty, action-packed campaign waiting for us on October 25th.
