If you’ve been waiting for a Sonic Adventure remaster or remake, don’t expect it to come out anytime soon. Sonic Team head producer Takashi Iizuka said he’s more focused on developing original projects than rehashing old Sonic games.
During a Q&A interview at Brasil Game Fest recently (via Sonic City), Iizuka-san said that he thinks about creating new adventures for Sonic the Hedgehog more often than he does about remaking past titles. However, he said that if there’s a need for a remake or remaster of certain Sonic games, then he’ll think about making it so.
“I’ve always worked over the past 30 years with the goal of creating something new,” he said. “Even now, I spend every day thinking about new projects, so unless there’s a real need for it, I don’t really think much about remakes or remasters.”
Fans have been asking for a remaster or remake of some Adventure-era Sonic games for years. Sonic Heroes was especially requested for a remaster because it hasn’t had any digital rereleases since 2012, and the only way people could access it is through emulators. Unfortunately, Sonic Heroes is the one game Iizuka-san is unlikely to revisit due to a complication that affected so much of the game’s development.
