Review keys provided by the publisher(s)
NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: We here at GameTyrant have been absolutely bombarded with so many products and games this year already. We will be rolling out select quick reviews to let our audience know about products, games, and, DLC that may have slipped under their radar. We appreciate the amazing support from all publishers and developers out there!
Doronko Wanko
Starting out our list is an adorable little title called Doronko Wanko, in which players get to enjoy tearing apart their new house as a tiny puppy. I found this game to be a clear and simple enjoyable experience. You’re literally running amuck through this house unlocking new gadgets and gizmos to have at your disposal to cause havoc. Though the camera is a bit on the clunky side, this title really was an exciting time, and the perfect game to play when you’re looking to turn your brain off.
and Roger
Next on our list is a short but potent title that uses its storytelling sequences and unique gameplay to illustrate its ideas. and Roger was one of those games that really challenged my perception of the story as it went along. It really isn’t until you get to its third that things make any sense, but that’s the exact reason why I was so invested in its story. It’s a story a lot of people can empathize with, and one that left my eyes misty by the time the credits rolled.
A Dream About Parking Lots
A true “walking simulator”, A Dream About Parking Lots truly lives up to its name as you are constantly traversing unique and often times, odd parking lots looking for your car in a dreamlike state. While this surely isn’t my favorite game of the season in terms of gameplay, the way it goes about its story that focuses on family, fear, and mental health, I really appreciated what it had to say. For its low price and short run-time, this is a title worth sitting through, even if some of the parking lots truly are a beast to explore. But that’s the point anyway!
Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition
Though there are a great many wonderful action-RPGs on the market these days, seeing Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition make its way onto the Nintendo Switch was a big deal for me. And while I never played the original growing up, being able to bring a solid action-RPG with me on the go is something that I’m always looking forward to.
Though its visuals still aren’t nearly close to on-par with the likes of most newer titles of the genre on the Switch, the solid gameplay core and the fact that this title runs beautifully on the console are something that’s worth merit. Far after this review, I will continually be playing Neverwinter Nights 2, taking in its splendor.
Rock Beasts
Rock Beasts is such a weird game, and honestly, I’m glad that it is. When I first saw this title, I knew that I had to be the one to try it out. Between its unique and off-puttingly designed characters and its unique blend of multiple gameplay styles, Rock Beasts proves that taking risks with your game can pay off.
Personally, I’m a musician, so it was really enticing to jump right into the story here, as I always already invested in what it had to explore. But the storytelling isn’t lazy, as the story is so varied and nuanced that everything you do can and will change the flow of how the band you manage will navigate the music world. Putting that into practice with its gameplay left me feeling completely satisfied, as you really do get a fair share of mixing up the gameplay around every turn. This is for sure a title worth checking out, especially if you’re a music fan.
