PlayStation has finally announced its own, official PlayStation 5 side plates in a variety of color options. There are five new colors console owners can choose from: Midnight Black, Cosmic Red, Starlight Blue, Nova Pink, and Galactic Purple. The first two covers that will be available to buy are the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red colors, with the rest slated to come later in the first half of 2022.
The blog post also announced a collection of three new Dual Sense colors as well, and they’ll match the Galactic Purple, Nova Pink, and Starlight Blue console covers. The controllers will be available for purchase starting in January 2022 from select retailers.
There’s been some controversy around the side plates for the PS5 since its reveal in early 2020. It sports a strong profile and bold design choices that had many fans asking about customization options before the console was even available. Some third-party companies decided to fill that void by designing their own custom plates for the PS5 but were often met with cease-and-desist letters.
The Galactic Purple Dual Sense will be available through Sony’s direct purchase storefront on January 114th, 2022, followed by the first wave of console covers on January 21st. The new controllers and new side plates will then be available at other retailers on February 11th and February 18th, respectively.
