Valor Mortis: How to Complete the In the Name of Art Quest

During Chapter 5 of Valor Mortis, you’ll eventually come across an abandoned cottage in the woods where a family used to live. There, you’ll find a hanging body of a man, and the side quest In the Name of Art asks you to figure out why he ended his life. Although not a difficult side quest to complete, if you don’t know exactly where to look, you can miss out on a cool reward. Here’s how to complete the quest In the Name of Art in Valor Mortis.

In the Name of Art side quest guide in Valor Mortis

To start the side quest In the Name of Art in Valor Mortis, head through the forest from the Under the Bridge lantern until you come across a side path leading to a house. The entrance is blocked, so circle around the right side of the home and peek through the window to shoot the orange orb.

This will give you access to the main entrance, so step inside the home and go upstairs to find the hanging man. Interact with the broken painting to begin the quest.

From there, head back downstairs and outside of the home. At the side of the home, there will now be a path available for you to walk up. You’ll see a grave, and below the grave is the Basement Key you need.

You can now return to the home and use the Basement Key to unlock the basement door. This basement area is fairly linear from here, so pick up any notes that you find and take care of the enemies that get in your way.

After reading the note about the poison, you’ll watch a flashback where you find out that the husband used poison on his child. Jump up the ledge and walk through the path with the hanging flowers to find the painter’s final letter.

Once you read the letter, you’ll receive the Butcher’s Carnage Amber, and the quest will be complete! Equipping this Amber lets you regain health by striking enemies with melee attacks, but you can no longer use Ferrofluid Flasks to heal.

With that out of the way, you may now be interested in learning about other games, such as how to start the Dark Arisen expansion in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Valor Mortis is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
