No matter if you’re new to the series or a survival horror veteran, Resident Evil Requiem can be difficult on its highest difficulty. Whether it’s overwhelming combat encounters or difficult puzzles, we have some tips for beginners jumping into Resident Evil Requiem for the first time.
Best tips for beginners in Resident Evil Requiem
Check your map for items
You will often leave a room in Resident Evil Requiem having thought you looted it entirely, when in fact there may have been a Green Plant hiding in the corner. Luckily, any items you’ve passed by but failed to pick up will appear on your map.
Anytime you’re about to leave a room, check your map first to see if you’ve missed any important items. I had missed dozens of items throughout my first playthrough, so always double-check that map.
Think before you shoot
When you’re facing off against an enemy, especially during Grace’s sections, it’s important to know whether you should use up resources on killing a monster or leave it be. If it’s a creature you can sneak past without it noticing, maybe it’s best to save those bullets.
Also, think about when you should use a Hemolytic Injector on the zombies. If it’s a tougher enemy, why waste bullets on it when you can sneak up and instantly kill it? They’re harder to craft at the beginning of the game, but they’re super useful when it comes to stronger enemies.
Save often
Unless you’re on the classic difficulty that requires ribbons to save, you should be saving your game as often as you can. This is because Resident Evil Requiem doesn’t have many automatic save points, and dying during a combat encounter may send you back farther than you’d like.
Anytime you pass by the safe room, take the extra few seconds to save. You don’t want to make a lot of progress just to have lost it all because you didn’t reach any auto saves.
Craft smart
Checking the crafting menu can give you a lot more insight into what you can craft than just crafting in your inventory. I didn’t realize until halfway through the game that I could turn any Makeshift Knife into Scrap.
You also want to make sure you’re crafting items that you actually need. Don’t feel pressured into crafting something just because you have the materials in your inventory. Save them for when you actually need them or when you run out of room!
Spend Challenge Points
Challenge Points (CP) aren’t just required for buying artwork and character models, as you can use them to unlock in-game items! You get CP by completing challenges, and once in a while, you should check the CP menu to unlock items like weapons and charms.
You’ll unlock a lot more items like costumes and weapons after your first playthrough, which can help you during your New Game + run. Still, there is plenty of stuff you can buy during your first run, so don’t miss out.
Resident Evil Requiem is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
