LEGO VOYAGERS Review: An Adventure Built Brick By Brick

Review key provided by Annapurna Interactive

If there’s one thing LEGO is known for, it’s the sense of imagination and adventure that each block evokes in its builder. Whether big or small, realistic or abstract, LEGO are the quint-essential building blocks that inspires us to be curious. So naturally, with the release of LEGO Voyagers, we hoped to see what hasn’t been done with these near-limitless little bricks. We’ve seen adventures into favorite IPs but recently, we haven’t seen a wholly original LEGO idea come into play. Well with LEGO Voyagers, let’s just start off by saying that it will definitely have players curious.

Story and Gameplay

LEGO Voyagers lives up to its name as you and another player take on the role of two little single bricks, rolling along in this wild and adventurous world. The story is more of a focus on the journey itself than a specific single narrative that it’s trying to tell. It’s just that ambitious feeling of “what’s next on the road ahead” that pushes the game along.

As for gameplay, it too is simple when looking at it from a distance, but it’s actually quite exciting from a technical standpoint. You can connect to just about her brick top you see in the game, allowing you to move nimbly from one to the next, build in any way you’d like, and tackle puzzles in uniquely creative ways. Over and over, my partner and I would audibly exude joy with what the game just had us accomplish. It has this wonder that makes you feel like a kid again.

While I thought that the game’s mandatory two-player co-op wouldn’t be fully realized, I was dead wrong. This title is a blast because you have to work so well with your partner to succeed. Of course, there are tons of puzzles that need to be solved through teamwork, as well as additional little side-quest activities to do around the world together to let off some steam. My partner and I felt addicted to playing together and seeing what the game would throw our way next for us to solve together.

Visual and Sound

There’s absolutely no doubt that LEGO Voyagers is a gorgeous game. Each landscape is carefully crafted both artistically and mechanically to make you actually feel like a LEGO. And while there isn’t a big overarching narrative to carry the story, each environment has its own to tell to flesh out this world and allow players to make sense of it all.

It’s a truly vibrant world to explore, and doing so is further aided by the beautiful music that accompanies you and your partner as you progress throughout the world. Everything just feels so full of life and joy because of the sweeping score and wonderful environmental audio.

Feedback and Conclusion

I was extremely impressed by just how much LEGO Voyagers went for it. The wonder, excitement, curiosity, and creativity can be felt at every turn. This is the absolute perfect LEGO title. My only complaint would be that the camera angle isn’t always helpful, and I found my partner and I falling off the map here and there because it was hard to judge a jump. Other than that, this title is a resounding win in my opinion. If you love LEGO or just want to experience an exciting and invigorating new game to play, then LEGO Voyagers is just the thing for you!
