In a couple of days, Nintendo’s Switch Online Service will be released together with the latest system update for the console. Now, Nintendo confirms that free-to-play games on the Switch will still be playable even without a subscription.
In Nintendos FAQ page for Switch online, it was mentioned that although numerous first and third party games will require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to access online features, games such as Fortnite will be exempted from this rule.
“Beginning September 18, 2018, a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to participate in co-op and competitive online features for many first-and third-party Nintendo Switch games, including Platoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.”
“Some games, such as Fortnite, can be played without a Nintendo Switch membership.”
