I wasn’t expecting Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls to be the standout reveal from yesterday’s PlayStation State of Play, but here we are. It took up a good chunk of the stream, and by the end, it was the game I couldn’t stop thinking about.
The whole thing just screams nostalgia. You can tell the devs drew heavy inspiration from the Marvel vs. Capcom era, but instead of a sequel or remaster, this is Marvel going head-to-head with itself, and honestly, it works. The anime-style artwork and character designs look incredible, and there's a real energy to the presentation that grabbed me right away.
Between this and Marvel Rivals, it feels like Marvel’s finally branching out in some interesting directions. Both games are doing completely different things, but they each seem to understand what makes their genre tick.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is coming to PlayStation and PC in 2026. It’s a bit of a wait, but if the reveal is anything to go by, it’ll be worth keeping an eye on.
