Microsoft had its earnings report yesterday and while there wasn’t anything of note to report, it seems that Microsoft is the first of the console giants to have a price increase for the Xbox ecosystem. First reported by IGN, it seems that the price of every Microsoft console product just shot up significantly.
While some retailers are still showing the old price of $499 for the console, on Microsoft’s own site for the console, they have already raised the price to $599.
Here is a list of the new prices (taken from IGN):
Xbox Series S 512 - $379.99 (up from $299.99)
Xbox Series S 1TB - $429.99 (up from $349.99)
Xbox Series X Digital - $549.99 (up from $449.99)
Xbox Series X - $599.99 (up from $499.99)
Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Special Edition $729.99 (up from $599.99)
Xbox Wireless Controller (Core) - $64.99
Xbox Wireless Controller (Color) - $69.99
Xbox Wireless Controller - Special Edition - $79.99
Xbox Wireless Controller - Limited Edition - $89.99 (up from $79.99)
Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Core) - $149.99 (up from $139.99)
Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Full) - $199.99 (up from $179.99)
Xbox Stereo Headset -$64.99
Xbox Wireless Headset - $119.99 (up from $109.99)
In previous console generations, this is the point where we see a reduction in the prices of consoles, but even Nintendo is sticking to the original price of the Nintendo Switch 2 at $450 USD instead of giving into tarrifs, and Microsoft is the first console giant to raise their prices amid the tarrif situation.
This could be the start of a lot of problems in the gaming industry, it will only be a matter of time to see if Nintendo and Sony follow suit too.
