One of the most tragic side quests in Valor Mortis is called The Scarecrow, but this scarecrow isn’t fake. A man was hanged to die in a field, and to lay him to rest, you have to track down his belongings. There’s a bit more after finding these items that can easily trip you up, so we’ll explain how to finish The Scarecrow quest in Valor Mortis.
The Scarecrow quest guide in Valor Mortis
After watching the flashback and interacting with the scarecrow in Valor Mortis, find the first item by walking straight toward the large tree behind him. Walk through the field, and eventually you’ll find the base of this tree, where one dead soldier is sitting limply. Beside the soldier is a lover’s pendant, so pick that up.
The second item is trickier. It’s on the second floor of a house, but you can’t walk right through the front doors. Instead, traverse through the burning barn and find the path that leads to the back of the house on the hill. The back door is wide open, so step inside and go upstairs.
In the darkness, on a table, you’ll find a piece of paper. Read the letter with the drawing, unbolt the front door, then make your way back to the scarecrow. Once you hand him the items, you’ll want to follow the crows, because you’re not done just yet.
If you make your way back toward the back of the house and near the edge of town, you should spot the crows circling one building in particular. Head in that direction, and get rid of any enemies that try to get in your way.
You’ll find the last part of the quest once you jump up the ledge that leads into the roof of this small barn. There, you’ll see another flashback, and you can pick up the Amber on the piles of hay as your reward.
For completing this quest, you’ll receive the Bountiful Harvest Amber. When slotted, this Amber lets you gain a bit of health every time you collect Nephtoglobin.
